She was a reporter for The Washington Post nearly a decade and covered Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football as well playing basketball in multiple Olympics. Nichols was hired by ESPN from 2004. Nichols was a reporter at TNT during this period, covering NBA broadcasts like playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. Also, she reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It was only the second time in its 42-year history that women were selected from more than 200 nominations.
