Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American Canadian singer and songwriter. There are more than 20 albums that have been released by her. DiFranco's music has been classified as folk rock and alternative rock although it also has elements of punk, funk, hip hop and jazz. Ani Difranco is believed to be a feminist legend and a Grammy award winner. In the beginning, as one of the women's first artists of the 1990s, DiFranco created her record label. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They met at their school, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her mother was born in Montreal and her father is of Italian heritage. Ani diFranco was the composer and singer of the song 32 Flavors. The song debuted in 1995 on the sixth album Not a Pretty Girl. Another version of the song appears on the movie soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she was planning to hold an event for three days at the Louisiana slave plantation. The workshop was cancelled, however, she did not express any regret. DiFranco apologized for her mistake a couple of days afterward. She is known for her Little Folksinger music, but she's collaborated with many different genres and artists from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. The singer lives in New Orleans. Ani was born Kristen Ford. At 14, she began to compose her own music. She performed them in cafes and bars throughout her teens. DiFranco began attending Buffalo State College when she was sixteen years old. She graduated in the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts at that age.
